With a single-pin manual flash the only thing the hotshoe can do is tell the flash when to fire. If you look on the foot of the flash it only has the "sync" (or firing) pin on the bottom of the foot. So most of those supercheap flashes you're seeing can be compatible with all brands of camera by only following those two things.

Now I came across a lot of Nikon and Canon YN-560s but I am unsure if they will fit in the hot shoe on my a6000.Does it make a difference? I thought every camera had the same hotshoe.Įvery camera brand has a different hotshoe setup and communication protocol, but they (now) all follow the ISO standard for flash hotshoes: the physical dimensions, and how you tell the flash to fire. And they come in Sony multi-interface hotshoe flavors. Yongnuo's a dead end.ĭon’t wanna spend too much for something I might not end up using so i looked for used speedlights. And it's in a comprehensive lighting system that supports Sony with a ton of room for expansion if lighting eats your brain. If you have to go single-pin manual, a Godox TT600S costs $65. Yongnuo was the default recommendation five or six years ago, but since then, Godox has gotten miles ahead of them. And none of it is TTL/HSS Sony-compatible. Their 560 gear doesn't work with the 622 or RT gear. And while they can do great duty as radio slaves in a Strobist setup, Yongnuo themselves are a nightmare of a flash radio system. But they won't do TTL (automated power setting based on through-the-lens metering), HSS (you're stuck at 1/250s shutter speed or slower with flash without it). The Yongnuos are cheap because they're single-pin manual flashes. I'd recommend upping the budget and looking at a Godox TT350-S ($85) or TT685-S ($110). For a first/only speedlight, you really really want one with TTL/HSS capability. I wanted to get a Yongnuo 560 III / IV for my a6000. r/RoomDetective - What can you deduce from a photograph? r/Redditor_Pics - Redditors posting pics of themselves, family, and friends r/QualityPhotos - Professionals, intermediates, and beginners are encourage share their best work. r/PictureChallenge - Weekly topic/category of pictures r/PhonePics - Pictures taken from cell phones r/PhotoCritique - Post a picture and receive constructive criticism/advice for improvement r/GuessMyFirstName - Redditors share self portraits, you guess their name! r/ITookaPicture - Give and receive feedback r/Instagramshots - for sharing your instagrams! r/365PhotoProject - Year long marathon of taking and sharing photos
